Movie round-up: summer’s greatest hits

From the sweet to the intense, this summer was one best spent at the theater, with a movie for every taste.  Wonder what you missed?  Check out these summer box office hits.

1.”Inside Out”

What if emotions had emotions?  “Inside Out” perfectly gets inside the head of a tweenage girl, and will leave you crying tears of Joy and Sadness.  With its hilarious characters and nuanced insights, “Inside Out” will certainly get your train of thought up and running

2. “Trainwreck”

“Trainwreck,” Amy Schumer’s debut screenplay, tells the hilarious tale of a woman living a life free of commitment and loving it, until she meets the perfect guy and has to choose between her easygoing life and the life she never thought she wanted.  

3.“Spy”

Susan Cooper is surely an unlikely hero.  But make no mistake – “Spy” is no spoof.  Melissa McCarthy’s legendary wit is seamlessly woven into this action-packed tale of a CIA agent who goes into the field to avenge her fallen colleague, and finds herself in the midst of a conspiracy with devastating potential.

  1. Mission: ImpossibleRogue Nation”

The fifth installment in the Mission: Impossible series offers a truly impossible challenge for Ethan Hunt and his remaining IMF team: a comparable enemy.  The Syndicate are a group of highly-trained operatives, carrying out ever-escalating terrorist attacks with the goal of creating a new world order.  When Hunt and his team delve into this secretive world, epic fights ensue, with plot twists at every turn.

  1.  “Ant-Man”

This movie diverges slightly from the classic superhero film, while still carrying all of the trademark characteristics that Marvel fans have grown to love.  Scott Lang, an underdog and a thief, is given one final chance to redeem himself and save the world from havoc at the hands of the yellowjacket suit. In the fight that follows, Lang is forced to show his true heroism and sacrifice to his world.

  1. “Jurassic World”

“Jurassic World” lives up to its incredible hype as the sequel to the 1993 classic “Jurassic Park.”  The Jurassic World resort, the popular home to a wide variety of genetically engineered dinosaurs, turns to havoc when one escape sets off a chain reaction that puts the whole park in danger.  The increasing action and suspense leaves you holding your breath until the last scene.

  1. “Mad Max: Fury Road”

In the past few years, we’ve seen plenty of dystopian films, but none quite like this.  In this film, a tyrannical leader enslaves apocalypse survivors, but warriors fight back and trek across the wasteland in a daring and deadly chase.  This film’s dystopian reality carries so much intensity that you’re sure to walk away startled and amazed.

  1. “Straight Outta Compton”

This film follows the NWA’s rise to fame and the cultural transformation brought about by the first rap artists to rise into mainstream culture.  Regardless of your musical taste, this film is sure to delight all moviegoers, with shocking behind-the-scenes insight into the group’s rise to fame.
