After what seems like centuries, the long-awaited “Star Wars” sequel has finally arrived. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is the seventh movie in this series, however this time it was directed by J.J. Abrams. Because of this, many fans have been in doubt as to whether or not the movie would live up to their expectations.
There was no question after the movie hit theaters that the new “Star Wars” does not fail to entertain its viewers.
The new “Star Wars” features returning characters Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) and Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew). However these characters are not necessarily the ones in the spotlight.
Throughout the movie, the audience encounters new lovable characters such as Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).
With the fall of the Empire, new evil organizations have risen to form a new society called the First Order. Aiming to wipe out all Jedi, the First Order immediately set their sights on Luke only to find out that he has mysteriously disappeared. Following the rise of the First Order is the introduction of a new sith who is later to be revealed as Kylo Ren.
As trouble ensues between the First Order and the rebels, Rey and Finn find themselves in the middle of the struggle along with Han Solo and Chewbacca in finding the lost jedi and once again restoring balance to the force.
One beneficial component that plays an important part in this movie is the subtle humor. Utilizing parts and pieces of comical yet interesting scenes, Abrams is able to entertain the audience while also keeping strictly to the storyline.
Another key aspect to the movie is the music chosen to play during certain scenes. While bringing back certain songs for a sense of nostalgia, and adding new ones that are in keeping with that theme, Abrams effectively captivates old viewers as well as new viewers of the “Star Wars” series.
What makes this movie even more outstanding is the fact that it continues, more or less, from where it left off in the previous series. Many incidents have occurred in the movie industry in which sequels do not necessarily pertain to that of its predecessor. “Star Wars” continues with some of the old characters and begins soon after the fall of the Empire, which occurred in the sixth movie.
One controversial topic that is currently circling the internet is the discussion of Kylo Ren’s appearance underneath the helmet. Many viewers experienced a mixture of surprise and repulsion when the helmet is removed in the movie. From a certain viewpoint Kylo Ren’s character may appear weak and insecure. However, if going according to the plot, this actor is quite fitting for the role of this new Sith.
Throughout the movie it seems as if Kylo Ren is struggling to decide where he lies–with the Jedi or the Sith?
From previous movies, both Anakin and Luke have the same troubles in deciding which path to follow, and Kylo Ren is no exception. Abrams does a remarkable job of bringing this drama back into the new movie and displaying the accuracy of Kylo Ren’s appearance.
Another subject that is being debated by viewers is the matter of Rey’s background. Left by her parents on a mysterious planet called Jakku, Rey’s lifestyle at this point closely resembles that of Anakin and Luke’s childhood, all of them having lived on a desert planet with little to no family. By slowly scraping by with what she can obtain, Rey leads a meager life of poverty. Countless theories have traveled the internet questioning just who this female protagonist might be.
By utilizing new and old characters, creating a thrilling, unforgettable plot and incorporating music likeable to everyone, Abrams effectively creates the amazing “Star Wars” sequel that fans never believed would come.
