Students and staff participated in a volleyball match on Wednesday, Feb. 1 during lunch in the new gym. About nine staff members and teachers participated in the intramural event against the junior varsity women’s volleyball team, leadership, and other students. Music blasted on the speakers and two nets were set up for students and teachers.

They kept no score among the players and played for fun.

Among the teachers who played was science teacher Alyssa Hoeft.  “It was nice because usually during lunch, teachers usually sit in their own room but it was nice to do something more active during that time, and it gave me more energy for the last period of the day,” Hoeft said.

Elle Jones, a freshman on the junior varsity team,  played against some of her teachers, including Hoeft, her biology teacher.  “It was really fun,” said Jones. “The entire junior varsity team played for a little, and it was cool to play against teachers.”

Leadership organized the event and played a short round with the staff.  “In leadership, the sports committee organized it. I’m terrible at volleyball but it was fun to play with my classmates in leadership and some teachers,” said Alexis Quan, a freshman from leadership.

The event was for fun, as they kept no score among the players and had little to no rules. In the future there may be different intramural events previously being “softball,” said math teacher Patricia Causapin.
